(a) The azaan or "adhan" (a more linguistically correct spelling) is the call to prayer. It is done at the mosque at the starting time of each one of the five daily prayers that Muslims. The second call is the iqama, which is done to call Muslims to line up and start their prayer. Read this for the translation of what the muazzin (caller to prayer) says when he recites the adhan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adhan.

b) We believe that the Torah, Bible, etc. were originally messages from God and that Moses, David, Abraham, Jesus, etc. were all Prophets of God.

We do follow pretty much the equivalent of the 10 Commandments. Here are the sources from the Quran that are THE SAME as the 10 Commandments.Read the following article, it's super short: http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr10cisl.htm.

The first 2 of the 10 Commandments are part of the basic belief of Muslims called the Shahada. If you believe in the Shahada, you are a Muslim, simple as that. The Shahada is, "I bear witness that there is no god but the One God, and that Muhammad (pbuh) is the last Messenger of God." So Muslims believe in only One God, and we do not make images of Him.

c) Yes, I did hajj 3 years ago, and am doing it again this year, God willing. I also once went for umrah (a shorter version of hajj that is recommended for Muslims to do).

d) If someone converts, the biggest mistake other Muslims make is trying to immediately get them to change their name to Arabic. This is not required! If you feel more comfortable getting a new name or translating it to Arabic (both are done), go ahead, but don't feel pressured into it.

A good name is important because you will be called by your name on the Day of Judgment. Thus, the only requirement is that the name not mean something bad or wrong. For example, a few times the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) changed the names of his companions because they were called "war." This is why the ulema (teachers, scholars) say that the most hated word in Islam is "war." Or, someone had a name that meant "Sun worshipper"--this was also changed.

e) The holy month of Ramadan is starting on September 23 in the U.S., during which Muslims fast every day from dawn to sunset. After that is a 3-day festival/holiday called Eid-ul-Fitr. On the first day of Eid, there is a congregational prayer and you must also give zakat-ul-fitr, which is a particular amount of charity.

Read more about Ramdan here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramadan.

Read more about Eid-ul-Fitr here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_ul-Fitr.

But I can't think of a holy day coming up...?

Hope that helps. Allah Alam (God Knows Best). May God forgive me for any mistakes. I am still a student of Islam.

Peace be upon you (Assalamu alaykum).

(a) that's what the Muslim call to prayer is called.

(b) Yes we do. Check them out here. They are not in sequence though but found throughout the Quran. http://www.quran.org.uk/articles/ieb_quran_10commandments.htm

(c) No, but God willing in the future.

(d) No one must change their name unless it carries an unIslamic meaning. Some reverts change their name anyways out of personal choice. Note that arabic names are not equal to being Islamic. Some Arabic names are unIslamic. Proof is at the time of the Prophet, many Arabs after accepting Islam had to change their name to something different because they carried names proclaiming their loyalty and worship to Idols, as many were Idol worshippers pre-Islam. Also remember Islam is a universal religion not an Arab one. Over 80% of Muslims are non-Arabs.

(e) The holy month of Ramadan is coming up followed by the Muslim festival of Eid. I am soo excited , can't wait : D

you're welcome

peace unto you

(a) this is the call to prayer
(b) Allah gives the believers certain commandments throughout the qur'an (such as be good to your parents)
(c) I have not been yet, insha Allah soon
(d) The Prophet Muhammad said that the most beloved names to Allah are Abdur-Rahman and Abdullah, also the names of the Prophets, so people will often take these names. eg. Eesa (Jesus) Yusuf (Joseph) I do not believe that it is compulsory to take a name, Allah knows best.
(e) The month of Ramadan is coming soon. this is the month that the Angel Gabriel first visited the Prophet Muhammad, and revealed the first verses of the qur'an

Azzan is prayer call from the mosque.
Yes all the ten commandments preserved in Qur'an.
Yes I did once.
Name is not important. Covert can keep their old names.

Really don't celebrate any holidays. Maybe Eid which is celebration after Ramadan month of fasting.

Prophet Moses (PBUH) LAWS and Prophet Jesus (PBUH) GOSPEL is embeded in Qur'an in very original condition.

Five pillars of Islam are errected by Sunnis and Shias Imams mostly of Persian origin.

I thank you for your decent question. You are always welcome to ask anything related to Islam and Muslims.

Azaaning in Mosque is similar to ringing bells in Church.
If you want to be Muslim you have to believe in & respect all Prophets from God. You have also to call Bush THE BIGGEST TERRORIST IN THE WORLD!
