To answer your question "for over all health and fitness"

None of the above.

The best diet to follow is the one that is right for YOU and only you.

The combination of protein, carbohydrates and fats is biochemically different for everyone of us.

In general it will consist of eating good quality whole foods (preferably organic if you can do it) and drinking at least the recommended 8 to 10 glasses of "water" per day, 5 to 6 meals a day, each with a balance in protein, carbs and fat in every meal.

And obviously throw good ol' exercise in there as well.

I think for over all health and fitness it should include a combination of the Mind, Body and Spirit. They are all interconnected.

And I feel like I need to clarify here, by Spirit I don't necessarily mean church or religion, unless that works for you. It could be simply donating your time to a cause or spending more quality time with friends, family, kids...etc.

The Southbeach diet. It doesn't emphasize low calerie, but the recipes given are all low calorie. And it does say fat is okay as long as there's not a lot of Sugar! It's most definately low carb. You can get the book in any grocery store.

Low Calorie
Low Carb - can be very hard and not give you the fruits and veggie you need.
Low Fat - This just increases everything else like carbs that breakdown into sugar and does not help you lose weight.

IMHO - the best diet to follow is to eat good, healthy food in moderation. You need to determine how many calories keep you at your present weight, then, if you want to maintain that weight - continue to eat the same number of calories. Balancing carbs, eating healthy fat, i.e, olive oil, and limiting sugar, fried foods and less healthy fat while exercising on a regular basis is the way to go. I think choosing to follow fad diets works initially because of the change but if it doesn't fit you and your lifestyle - you aren't going to maintain it. If you need to loose weight then you have to adjust and limit calories and exercise more. To maintain - moderation and eating healthy foods works for pretty much everyone.

Low calorie. You still need some fat in your diet to absorb certain vitamins (A,D,E, and K) and you need some carbohydrates too. Also, do it under the care of a physician - statistically the most successful way to do it and keep the weight off.

Swap a bowl of pasta for just a bowl of vegetables. You can preserve to 200 calories by slicing the starch and adding fruit and vegetables.

Be a kid once more! When eating out, order some sort of child’s sandwich, pizza or hamburger. Then you can have the treats you cherish, while reducing your portions and cutting your calorie intake.

I'd say watch your calories and the fat intake, and this should be enough and exercise too. If you exercise too, you'll lose weight twice as fast than if you only diet.
