An 04 or above, fine, not many problems. If it is earlier than that, plenty of engine failures, broken valve seats, loss of compression, and electrical problems.

Well, yugie might have a point to consider. But overhaul the Focus has a large following. ie Car magazines, Compact car magazines, World Racing Championships etc. Parts, Parts. Sometime you have to consider "How long has this car been around and what kind of support is out there ie aftermarket parts, Racing parts etc. The Focus has all that and more.
ps if you get an answer from Fomocoman consider it Da Word.

I bought a 2000 Focus used. In 25,000 miles, the only thing that broke is the parking brake handle, which cost $30 and an hour of my time to swap it out. I certainly think I've done well with mine.

Focus' are good, 3 yr 36000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, and 5 yr 100000 mile powertrain warranty. Large trunk, outboard hinges so it's all usable space, folding rear seats for larger cargo are. Great legroom for all in the car for it size, front seats have great room for tall short or fat. The convenience group gives you tilt telescopic wheel. The drivers seat can manually be adjusted in 6 different ways, if you reach down on the right side you can crank it up and down. For being a four cyliner they are quite peppy. Go drive one

Definately not a bad car... just make sure it has the duratec motor in it...2.3 preferabely if your looking for Civic SI killin' power... but if you are the opposite then you can settle for the 2.0 I am sure... The Zetec is ok but not as powerful as the duratec and definately less reliable.

They've had top ratings for years now in the UK and Europe but from what I hear exactly the opposite in N. America, wouldn't touch one w. a barge pole from there.
