So don't give all your "will" to Karma and believe in Free Will. This means that you can decide your own path and that "Karma" would be no more or less than "The Golden Rule" or do unto others. Which is about the same thing as Karma. That is, do good and good things will happen.
By giving in to a "karmic destiny" and not KNOWING your last incarnation then you simply are stuck on a never ending path of failure simply because you never know where you came from. So only by ignoring your past life and BELIEVING you have a great Karmic future can you actually believe and have one. So, in other words, don't think about doing good, DO GOOD and let the past be the past.
Its your actions NOW that matter!!!

People misunderstand karma. Karma is not punishment for past actions. It is the completion of learning about a concept.
If you do something in one loop, then you have experienced part of that concept, from one perspective. But until you have experienced that concept from all perspectives, the lesson is not done. So, karma is in effect an "incomplete" on your report card. It says you have more to learn about other parts of the concept. Once you have experienced all aspects of the concept, karma is resolved and you can let that concept go from future cycles.
As to destiny and everything being pre-defined, that goes against the concept of free will. And most models that include karma (by whatever name) also include the concept of free will.

Your present actions are not defined by your past karma in the religious belief - your circumstances are. You cannot blame your actions on a circumstance, and you build up karma by good actions. Overcome your circumstances and get good karma to have better ones next time.

You have a slight misinterpretation of how the karma system works. Karma does not determine your choices, but rather you rcircumstances. If you led a bad life before, you will be placed in a bad situation in the present. You are free to choose good or evil acts in your bad situation, and your choice will determine your future cicumstances.
An oversimplification, but essentially accurate to the beleif structure. Personally, I don't beleive in Karma.

NO. the belief is that the karma you collected in your past life sets up the situation for your next life. in order to escape the cycle of reincarnation, you have to collect good karma. to collect good karma, you have do good actions. you CHOOSE to do good actions.
its all about choice. karma sets up the situation, if you have learned your lesson, you will choose the right course of action. if you havent, then you will choose the wrong course and it will be longer until you can obtain salvation.

There are three types of karma - past karma, present karma and future karma. Past karma we cannot change, future karma we can change. How? Through present karma. By generating good present karma, we can offset negative past karma and create good karma for the future. In this way, the future is not cast in stone. Our God is a good God. If our lives were based on past karma alone, we would be forever caught up in the cycle of birth and death. The purpose of reincarnation is that God gives us numerous chances to work out our negative karma. When this is done and we become spiritually conscious, we become free of the cycle of birth and death. We become one with God. God gives us as many chances as we need. God is forgiving and does not send us to hell without giving us all these chances. Sometimes, we are destined for something terrible but because of the good karma in our present lives, we narrowly escape it. Have you heard of vehicular accidents where everyone in the vehicle dies but one person escapes unscathed? In such cases, it was the person's negative karma to go through a bad accident but it was positive karma which saved his/her life. Humbly ask God to guide you. Surrender your life to God. When you have God in your life you have nothing to fear. Fearful thoughts may come but let them pass. When we have fear we send out vibrations which attract the same object of fear to us. Let go and let God. There is a verse in the Bhagvad Gita which states that when we have firm faith and devotion in the Lord, he will PERSONALLY take care of all our needs. We might still have to go through bad times, but know that God will be with you through it all. In the end, we all have to go back to that Divine home anyway. This world is not our home, we're just passing through.

If every moment were predefined, what would be the use of free agency? So, yes I do find a contradiction in your statement. Our lives are directed by the choices we make.
