My wife got a second puppy a couple of weeks ago ( a puggle). It eats it's own and the other puppies poop. The dogs are fed well, and this is a habit I don't understand. Any idea as to why it does this, and how to stop it. Thanks.

Petco/Petsmart sells a product called Forbid, that should work. Also its not always something they grow out of, many adult dogs also do it.

This is 100% normal and the bigger the dog the more likely the will do it. It is rarely diet, so don't buy that from anyone.

It's not bad for the dog, just gross to humans.

The stuff they sell in the pet stores for this problem is just MSG like they sell in the spice isle of the grocery. It doesn't work well or with many dogs, but save some money and try that.

More than likely the best thing to do is wait for the problem to go away as the dog ages, and make sure your dog has constant supply of food.

The only thing I have tried that works is hot sauce mixed in water and sprayed directly on the poo. Every poo. But you will look like a goofball out there spraying dog poo and when you stop it wont smell hot and the dog will eat it again :)

Are you feeding a high quality puppy food and vitamins? Puppies usually do this for one of several reasons. One of them being lack of certain supplements. And the other likely reason is being bored.
One way I found to take care of this is to immediately clean the spot where they go potty, But if that's a hassle try putting a sprinkle of Adolf's Meat Tender. on his food. This does not hurt the puppy, but makes their fecal matter taste terrible to them. It does work. I have had to do this with my Jack Russells Terriers. These guys go through serious boredom, especially in the winter when I can't exercise them enough Good Luck! STAY away from the HOT SAUCE, you'll end up with a sick puppy

it seems to be a puppy thing why??
Ive got a beagle pup 12 weeks that did that..hot sause does seem to work. If you have a cat oh wait until it finds the cat litter box ,,,sorry that was nasty.
he should grow out of this icky little habit tho.

It will stop by itself. When my dog was a puppy she would do that too and there was nothing we could do about it to stop her. Why puppies do that?? No clue but its just wrong.

I don't think there's any real way to stop it. It just has to take its course. The dog will grow out of it.

Its usually some type of diet deficiency. Like when they eat grass and their stomach is upset
