Please tell me why you think rubbing a dogs noise in their own poo will teach them not to go in the house? I think this is the most stupid thing anyone can do to a dog. How would you like your noise rubbed in poo? Can a real dog trainer or someone who specializes in dogs explain the correct way to handle the potty problem?

It is just the old way of house training, but definitely not the right way. Just clean the mess up when your pup is not around, you can only punish a dog if caught in the act.

Because people are idiots.

You have to catch a dog "in the act" to get it to understand what you want and don't want it to do. Rubbing its nose in its own waste later is just cruel, and won't help. Dogs aren't logical; they don't know that you're saying a mess they may have made 2 hours before is why you're upset.

Most dog trainers suggest crate training at first if you're going to be gone for long periods of time, because a dog will not soil it's own area. When the pup masters that, you move on to leaving them alone in larger and larger areas.

When you're with your dog, say "NO!" the second you see it start to potty inside. Then take it out immediately, and give it lots of praise when it goes outside.

That is very old fashion way that people use and it doesn't do any good . Would you like your nose rubbed in .... No you wouldn't
You have to have a routine with a puppy / About 20 mins after they eat , take them out so they can go , praise them when they go . They should go about every 45 to 1hr , till they get older . The older they get the longer they can wait to go . Plan on taking them out after they eat , play wake up from nap and before bed time at night and first thing in morning .There is a lot of work training a puppy to be house broke , but you love them it's worth it . Just take your time and it'll work out

This is a VERY old training method that some hold onto - but it is very stupid, and may end up making the dog one of those that eats feces. If you catch a pup IN THE ACT, loudly say "NO!", take them outside and let them finish there, & praise them profusely. If you don't catch them in the act, put them out of sight & clean it up. Pups do not have a long enough attention span to know why you are showing them this pile & yelling at them 10 minutes after the act - all that does is make them fearful of you. The best thing to do is avoid the accidents: crate the pup when you can't watch it directly, take it outside first thing when removing it from the crate & a few minutes after each meal. Always take it out first thing in the morning & last thing at night. Praise, praise, praise every sucessful potty trip! Your dog wants to please you, and this also helps you bond. Good luck!

I do not know but it does not have any value to it. Really you need to catch the dog in the act to have any real effect, and punishing them is not the way. A stern "no" works fine followed by taking them outside and always lavishing them with praise and rewards when they do right. It takes time and repetition. There are sprays you can but at the pet store, one that you spray outside and for whatever reason it makes them go in that area. It is always a good idea to crate train your puppy so he can stay out of trouble when you are gone. But also make sure you are frequently taking your puppy outside and not waiting to he goes inside. Always take a puppy out after eating playing and sleeping, the repetition helps him to understand. And always go out the same door so he learns to go to that door when he wants out. If you need to buy indoor potty pads buy the grass scented ones to avoid confusion.

The reason that they say to do that is because, when a dog poops in the house and you rub their nose in it they don't like the smell. Just as you said would u like your nose rubbed in it? Most people would say no......why?, because we as humans would not want to smell it! Just as a dog or cat would not want to smell it either. It trains them. If they poop in the house then that is what it will smell like. TRUST me this method works!!! Another way to break the habit of not going potty in the house is taking them to the spot where they went and telling them no and putting them outside. You could also get a doggy door and show them where it is and push them out the door from time to time.

Because the people who say that don't know how to train a dog. Unless you catch them going to the bathroom in the act, they won't learn from it.

In stead, crate training and good housbreaking (rewarding it when it goes to the bathroom outside) are better ideas.

what do u mean by rubbing the dog's noise ?how can u rub a noise ?my noise rubbed ? or is it nose u r talking about ? my god it must be nose ; dogs can be trained without all these stupid things. take your dog for an early morning walk & wait till it relieves itself. again take him out in the evening. daily taking him out to ease himself is more than enough. it will get used to relieving himself outside the house. if he does inside, scold him at once or give him one beating ( not very hard )if u punish him when he does something wrong, he will avoid doing it . again.repeat the punishment if he repeats the mistake. but the punishment should be instant . that is as soon as he does the mistake. i have two dogs at home. theyr not trained by the trainer. but they never dirty my home.but u must have patience till they learn their toilet habit.

I'm not a trainer but it's to let them know that their poo stinks and if they poo in the house this is their punishment. More than likely they wont do it again but if you just say no and take them out regularly that will make it stop also if they do it put them in their kettle right away for a "time out"

They tell you to do that because it tells themwhat they did was wrong and they dont like it so if the continue doing and you continue to rub there nose in it they will stop. a good way to prevent this is to let your dog go potty in the back yard so it will usally have a less chance of hapaning
