Well, you're right, but there's a parallel development that some racially motivated people have attached themselves to the border enforcement issue, and in some really negative ways, there's a lot of hype, a lot of resentment, and a lot of unsolved questions, and bluntly spoken, racism has been used as a weapon in times past to try and justify people entering our country illegally and taking refuge in so-called 'sanctuary cities' etc.
Our biggest cross to bear on illegal immigration is unfortunately Mexico. We've been played for stupid, told that we're extremist or whatever for wanting to see to it that our laws are correctly and fairly enforced. And, yes, there have been racially motivated criminal acts in the past, and I for one am hoping that all parties concerned remember where they left their manners, so that we can ultimately see to it that illegal entry into our country by someone of ANY ethnicity, not just hispanic, but ANY ethnicity, is dealt a decisive blow, because frankly, if you think about it, the race card plays pretty well in OTHER countries, too, and it's time that people see the WHOLE country for what it is, and has become, as a result of all of this. I think we should keep the Welcome mat at the front door, but at the same time, it's there so people can wipe their feet off on the way in. We're not obligated to take all comers simply because some knee-jerk liberal(or unscrupulous conservative') can use these people as tools to advance their political, personal, or financial agenda.
We can do better than that, and if we can't, then it's time to cancel immigration altogether pending a serious re-think of the whole mess. As citizens, this one is ours to decide by majority vote. Yet, somehow I doubt that this Congress is capable of passing such a momentous decision down to the people that will have to live with the consequences...We, The People(not just white, black, asian, hispanic, or native american, or slavic, or italian, or polish, or irish people), but We, The People, as in 'everybody', need to take some 'quality time' to really and honestly ponder all the angles on this one,
and correspond with our representation according to our heartfelt views. So, to the 280 million bona-fide US citizens out there, I say 'clock starts now, pencils and paper are over THERE---->'

There are some people who are against illegal immigrants because they broke the law. Those people are not racist.
But there are those who hate illegal immigrants because they also happen to come from a particular race (which they already happen to hate). Those people are racist.
I personally know a lot of people who even have job offers to come and lead an independent life and add value to the country without being a burden but they are held back by some sort of legal glitch or the other. So they actually respect the law and don't come into the country.
It would be extremely unfair for them to be excluded and let only some illegal immigrants in, just because they already broke the law and happen to be in!
Think about it.

Well, I agree that it's not racist to want to keep illegal immigrants out of the country, but aren't they mostly mexican. You don't have to be racist to be "anti-illegal" as you put it, but I'm sure some people are. I'm just saying...

And that Mexicans are white, so unless the anti-illegal folks are Black or Asian, it's impossible to be racist against them.

Some people are, but not all. The same is to be said for the pro-illegals.

America was founded on immigrants, illegal or not, and to stop the entrance of these people into our country would only hurt us in the long-run.
