Imitrex almost always stops my headaches, but $125. for 6 pills.
Why doesn't tylenol 3 s, demerol, etc work.

Headache was yesterday and it was a bad one. And I was out of my meds. Just have the migraine hang-over today.

You tell me and then we'll both know. I have been trying to find out the answer to that question for years. And Demerol and codiene works enough in that they make you not care you are in pain. Nice little vacation from the headache.

I love imitrex!
Worth the money for anyone who has EVER had a migraine
This is an age old question.
Ibuprofin does work if you catch the headache early.Same with tylenol or acetaminaphin.
But with kids when and where are we suppose to find a quiet dark place to go?Yeah right.
You can go to hospital and they will give you a shot but you will need someone to take you home because it will knock you out.
Also worth it if medicines just don't work. It's just a big dose of Demerol but effective since you will sleep through the pain.
Good luck.

Most pain killers like Excedrine have Acetaminophen. I was given Duradrin which its main ingridents is Acetaminophen. But too much of Ace.. is bad for the liver. Always drink medicine when you first start feeling the symtoms coming on. For the past 6 months I been using Maxalt but it just as expensive as Imitrex. I think its around 16 bucks a pill. But what I do is I cut it in half. I know it says not to but I do anyways and it saves me some money. Another thing I do that helps Salonpas patches for back pain its about 3 bucks for 40 paches at walmart use a patch on your head where the throbbing is it helps sooth the pain. Not instead of medicine but with medicine. So anything with Acetaminophen will work.
To sum my long answer. 1.) drink medicine before you have a full blown migraine, around first systoms 2.) Use Salonpas to help with the head throbbing 3. Maxalt works but is just as expensive. Duradrin (much cheaper then Imitrex and Maxalt) helps but it just like using Excedrine.

It depends on whats causing the headaches.
I tend to get Muscle Tension headaches on the Migraine scale.
(Back of the head/Neck)
With those, 800 mg of Motrin (Ibuprofin) usually does the trick.
Ibuprofin is a muscle relaxer.
Sometimes I get headaches from borderline dehydration.
(Top/center of the head, Temples)
With those, Aspirin usually does it.
Then there are the Sinus Headaches.
(In front/behind the eyes/forehead)
With those, Actifed/benedryl/Excedrin Sinus is what I've taken, usually with aspirin.
Hope this helps

Treximet is a wonder migraine drug. It works great. I use it when I get migraines and I feel better within a couple of hours. It's a prescription drug so talk to your doctor. EMT

I use ibuprofen (Motrin) and it works well. Works even better if I take it with caffiene, and also staying hydrated keeps me from having as many. Good luck!
