Well, protein powder has the potential to help you build up muscle mass very quickly... IF you exercise along with it. If you don't then it just turns into excess fat and LOTS OF IT!!! I personally would stick to real foods that have lots of protein. Eat lots of steak, chicken, fish, (or tofu burgers if you are vegetarian) instead of powders and supplements.

For soy protein in general, it is supposed to be beneficial to your heart if you take 25g a day (according to the FDA article below). It is also the only type of protein with all the essential amino acids you need. The daily recommendation for total protein is 70g per day total and most people in the U.S. get way more than they need. Too much protein is also said to be hard on your liver and kidneys later in life.

Soy protein is NOT a good idea for men or boys, because it produces estrogen (female hormones). Men should use WHEY PROTIEN.
