cabinets are very, very dark, and I want to lighten them up.

I just saw an ad on TV for paint that will work on plastic (which Formica is). I forget the name but fusion is part of it. It claims it needs no pre-sanding or anything. Check your local paint stores.

I don't think your suppose to paint formica, but if they're really getting to you, Spray paint them. On TV they do all this and it looks great. Try on the back of one piece first, and see how you like it, or if it works.

Jepa is right. Light sanding to enable bonding. Then a primer that mentions excellent adhesion on the label. You should use a paint that has some gloss to it, for easier cleaning.

Yes you can by a formica treatment that alows you to paint it.

Yes. You have to lightly scuff up the surface. You can use steel wool or 220 grit sandpaper. If you don't do this the paint won't adhere to it. Also you should use a good bonding primer.
