No it's not about fear of losing faith.. here are a couple of reasons why they would/ should quote:

1) To give proof based on the book they are referring to
2) To practice and/or pick up the right examples
3) To interpret the proof ( by stating it ) in the simplest form possible, comprehencible by everyone involved in the argument
4) To make sure one is respected for their knowledge of his/her beliefs with proof
5) etc

Maybe it's because if they just make a random claim, everybody jumps down their throats and is like, why on earth do you believe that, your religion's made up and you're stupid. I mean, if somebody was trying to convice me of a doctrine, just because they say it I don't believe it, but if they can point at it in the bible or koran or talmud or whatever religon you're talkign about I will think about it. I think it's more for others than themselves. And don't most people criticize religious people for believing things arbitrarily? Now they get criticized for offering reasoning?

Quotations are done as they know tjhose books.

Talk some physics
Newton's third law of motion:
Every action has a equal and opposite reaction.
If you stab someone you will be hanged.
The religious people do not want you to be hanged as they love all beings including you

Hence they ask of you to be righteous.

I am a Wiccan and I think I'm right but I don't ignore everyones opinion and shove my religion down thier throats like some people on here do (notice that I didn't say who). And not all religions have scripture!

The biggest fear religious people have is facing reality so they hide behind bible spouting whenever reality raises its inconvenient head. Bible spouting is a thinking substitute for the incapable.

Weird question.
Are you saying that you have beliefs you know are inaccurate, but you hold onto them anyway?
Of course everybody thinks they're right.
That's fine.
The goal is to share one's beliefs respectfully and politely ....providing proofs, which explains why some refer to scripture.
Would you rather have a bunch of "I think", "I think"?
Of whom are you a disciple?

What?.....religious people (as you call it) are putting what GOD
says above what man says!.....ps. losing faith!....really?...that's your "CARNAL INTERPRETATION" why?...because you don't know GOD, nor do you have "SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING OF GOD"S WORD!.......simple as that!....go to a site that believes the same way you believe...CARNAL!....simple as that!
