Scientology was created by mediocre SF writer L.Ron Hubbard. He once stated that if he could invent a religion that he would never have to work another day in his life.
Here are the basics, they believe that everyone is re-incarnated. That our original incarnations were as aliens in another galaxy.
In Scientology, you earn "degrees by reliving/discovering your past lives until you get back to the "original" alien life. You do this by working with more experienced Scientologists. Each of these degrees costs money so most of the Scientologists end up giving alot of their money to the "Church". Scientology doesn't believe in Psycology because they think that any problems that you may have in this life are related to decisions or problems you had in a previous existence.
It is basically a cult started by L.Ron Hubbard as a way to make money..

"Scientology is a body of teachings and related techniques developed by American author L. Ron Hubbard over some thirty years beginning in 1952 as a self-help philosophy, an outgrowth of his earlier self-help system, Dianetics. It claims to offer an exact methodology to help humans achieve awareness of their spiritual existence across many lifetimes and, simultaneously, to become more effective in the physical world. The name "Scientology" is also used to refer to the controversial Church of Scientology, the largest organization promoting the practice of Scientology, which is itself part of a network of affiliated corporations that claim ownership and sole authority to disseminate Dianetics and Scientology.
A stated goal of Scientology is to "rehabilitate" the thetan (roughly equivalent to the soul) to regain its native state of "total freedom." Church spokesmen and practitioners attest that Hubbard's teachings (called "Technology" or "Tech" in Scientology terminology) have saved them from a plethora of problems and enabled them to better realize their highest potential in business and their personal lives. However, outside observers—including journalists, lawmakers, and national governing bodies of several countries—have reached conclusions about Scientology that are sharply at odds with the Church's self-representations. These include allegations that the church is an unscrupulous commercial enterprise that harasses its critics and brutally exploits its members.
Although some scholars accept Scientology as a bona fide religion, it has also been characterized as a pseudoreligion or a cult."

Well, I'm not a scientologist, so I don't know everything, but we just read this article in school that talks about scientologists and a few basic things are that they are very against psychologists and the drugs that they prescribe because they think that there is trauma that everybody goes through that affects you mentally and can give you psychosomatic illness, and that you have to go through this whole process to cleanse yourself of all of that stuff. Then you can enter the higher levels of learning, which is where you learn doctrine and stuff, but they don't really like to talk about it with people that are outside of the religion so little is know about the beliefs. Also, it's really expensive.

I tried it. I took the first two trainings. Better communicating, and better studying. I didnt get into the more expensive ones on clearing drugs or escaping peer pressure since (A) they were more expensive and (B) I didnt feel I needed them. The course prices were less than college courses and I felt they were much more useful. I had no problem leaving (I had more problem leaving the baptists and they wanted more of my money than the Scientologists did) :) I did learn some pain handling techniques when I was there. They show them to anyone who bangs their knee or gets a headache. Works well. I still use them with myself and my kids. Everybody I saw there seemed very open and happy. But of course thats enough to scare some people.
