the best way is to just ask. keep it simple and don't put to much thought into it. Just ask her (Would you like to go to the dance with me?) and then go from their if she says yes then you can work on the girlfriend thing at a latter time. So i would suggest asking her to the dance first.

well first ask her to go out wit u cuz if she says yes u no shell go to the dance wit u so u jus knocked out 2 birds wit one stone u no o but if she is going out wit u u still got to ask to the dance its a girl thing just make sure u do it ok good luck and hav fun at the dance

just go to her .. first make small talk.. then confidently ask her- are you going for the dance? do u wanna go with me?.. if she says yes.. then see how it goes at the dance.. hw she behaves..may be u can end the night wid a kiss :) .. then she can be ur girl frnd in a non generic way..
as for being asked for a dance by my crush- i would soooo love it. i wud be delighted.

first ask her to the dance.hang out with her.talk with her smell her.watch her attitude see if you can really see yourself with her,then ask her where is her boyfriend, then you say I'd like to be she can either say yes or no.either way you will come across so many remarkable woman in your life you will find your special queen. be bold.love is so great when you have found your match it is worth going through rejection and pain.when one day you will cuddling in bed with the love of your life.good luck

If you know something that she likes or that you two both have in common and enjoy do it like that. Say you both like to play basketball, ask her to play one on one or something like that and put a little note on the ground that says "will you go with me" and then place it on the court before, and then when you are playing you can say what's this? and then you can say it's for you, and then she knows.
