I figure its pretty normal for the average person to have thoughts running through their head, but in my case it is non-stop racing thoughts that are uncontrollable and it really distracts me from focusing and getting things accomplished. These thoughts in my head are sometimes completely random or sometimes they are relevant to whatever I am doing at the time. I also have a hard time falling asleep at night since my mind will never completely shut off. This has been going on for me for as long as I can remember and I never really thought of it as a mental illness. At this point I’m trying to do a little research and maybe someone can lead me in the right direction on what they believe my illness is.

Possibly ADD or an anxiety disorder, though if it's been going on forever the more likely answer is ADD. Talk to your doctor or a psychiatrist and they may be able to give you a trial of some drugs to relieve it.

It could be a shadow syndrom of ADD. It probably won't require treatment though.
