I'm on the progesterone only pill, and in the notes it says that if you forget a pill one day, you should carry on taking them the next day or as soon as you remember and not have un protected sex for about 6 days to avoid pregnancy.
Yet it says that if you want to finish taking the pill and try for a child you need to be off the pill for about 3 months. So if you have to wait 3 months..... why would it matter if you just forgot one pill?
Tad confusing isnt it?

Often, a woman's body will take up to 3 months to rid itself of any remaining effects of the pills. Starting off a pregnancy with a less than ideal hormone balance probably isn't a good idea either. After 3 months, your body has metabolized whatever remains of the pills and has probably gotten back to its normal, natural routine. Some women actually can't get pregnant any earlier than this, so they tell everyone to wait 3 months so you're not expecting to get pregnant the first week out off the pill.
That doesn't count for everyone though. I know lots of women that get pregnant while taking the pill, whether by forgetting even one, or if they're antibiotics for a while, or just because they're that fertile. Missing just one pill can weaken the system (of the pills) just enough for some women to end up expecting.

because you can conceive if you miss a pill , but if you keep taking the pills, the progesterone may have detrimental effect to the child. The chances are not too high, but why risk it?
They advice several months off before you try for a child, so that the hormones are out of your body, your cycle is back to normal. This way, it is also easier to determine the date of conception, and how far along you are. It is usually safe to conceive right after getting off, but there is some chance that it will be hard to determine how far along you are, and there is a chance that the hormones may mess up the fetus. That's where the discrepancy comes from.
Btw, POP pills suck, so unless you cannot take the combined pill, they are not worth it. They made my hair fall out, made me depressed and made me retain water, and they're less efficient than other methods.

Yes, it is confusing. My doctor told me the POP works by changing the consistency of your cervical mucus, and making it hostile to sperm. I don't know why you would need to wait 3 months to get pregnant. I never heard that before.
