Use the component output of your DirecTV receiver, or better yet, the HDMI. "normal AV cables," and S-video cables, made by Monster or not, are not going to give you a good picture on a big-screen TV--it's like using cooking oil to lube a Ferrari engine.

It makes a huge difference. I recently bought a PS2 for my big screen TV and was unhappy with the picture that came with the included composite connection. I bought the component video connection for the PS2 and the difference was like night and day.

I'm watching an HD program from Dish Network on my Samsung DLP right now and it's fantastic.

The set's native resolution is 720p

Make sure your DirectTV box is not pumping out 1080i.
If it is, turn it back to 720p.

I've seen this happen time and time again. Installer cranks the scalar to 1080i.

So here is what happens
480 incoming -> upconverted to 1080i -> sent to TV -> V down converts to 720p.

So the signal went thru 2 noisy transforms (the upscale and the downscale to native).

Also check the quality of the coax cables from the wall jack to the cable box. It should be RG6 cable.
