Here is my understanding of the Sabbath. One the 7th day of creating earth, God rested. He has commanded us to do the same in remembrance. Therefore the Sabbath (originally Saturday, now Sunday) is to be a Holy day.

I don't think that everyone has to do the sabbath on a particular day. Like some people have the middle of the week off instead of the weekend. As long as you take a day to rest and praise God, then it doesn't matter what day it's on.

THe bible says in the new testament in Mark 2:27Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." THen it says in Colossians 2:16So don't let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new-moon ceremonies or Sabbaths." Romans 14:5-6"In the same way, some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. Each person should have a personal conviction about this matter. 6Those who have a special day for worshiping the Lord are trying to honor him."

There is a distiction between the Seventh-day Sabbath and the other sabbaths.

The seventh-day Sabbath was mentioned in the Ten Commandments written on stone. The others were written on paper by the hand of Moses. The seventh-day Sabbath pointed to Creation. The other sabbaths were "shadows" that pointed to Christ.

Yes the Sabbath was made for man. That means it was made for our benefit.

There is more that I can say.

GOD bless

You reference Mark 2:27
Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

Jesus had "done work" on the Sabbath and the Pharisees were upset with Jesus. In the Old Testament ceremonial law, God commanded his people to set aside one day of the week to rest and worship God. As time went on, a group called the Pharisees developed and they wrote over 400 additional laws that the people of Isreal were to follow. Some of them pertained specifically to the Sabbath and defined just exactly what it meant to "do work" in their opinon. These were man-made laws, not the laws of God.

What Jesus was saying is that God made a day for people to rest from their work. God did not make a day where by people could show their good works and DO something for God as the Pharisees believed that one must earn God's favor.

The Sabbath was made to be a benefit to humans. It was not designed to be a burden to them. The context of the passage is human laws that had made honoring God by keeping the Sabbath a burden to everyone. The effect was people believing that God was oppressive.

Jesus was trying to help people understand the truth that God and his ways are not burdensome or oppressive.

Different interpretations.

Some hold that because (according to Genesis) God rested on one day, and because the 10 Commandments decree that man shall also rest on that day, that failing to do so is a sin, since it violates the commandments.

God was trying to teach us how to bring peace and equality to all mankind. Leaders are required to give their "slaves" as well as their servants and work animals a day of rest and peace. In case you haven't noticed, "peace" is the goal of Judaism.

Shalom!

I agree with Exodus. Study with much prayer. God has NEVER changed. He has not changed, His word has not changed and nether has His Law changed. So how did Sunday become the sabbath? Go and ask the Catholics. They changed it upon their own authority, not God's. GOD DOES NOT CHANGE!
