To a certain extant, I agree with you, but not completely.

Those who FORGET history, are usually doomed to repeat it.

The attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon are just symptoms of a disease that has multiple symptoms cropping up all over the world. We must not assume that we are immune to this disease, nor ignore those who still suffer constantly around us.

Also, I don't believe the disease is properly called "religion". Terrorism is something waaaaaaay beyond religion, no matter what religious disguise it wears. There have been all kinds of terrorists: "Atheist", "Jewish", "Christian", "Muslim", "Buddhist", etc. The fact that the same kind of actions come out of such opposing "ideologies" would indicate a different unifying force than religion.

I think your point may be that it has become a mythology and taken on a virtual reality beyond the reality of the horror and tragedy that it is. Beyond those who are understandibly mourning and and want to make sure lives are memorialized, we may see the potential for many others to use this event as something that gives them meaning and purpose, to embody their principles and ideologies. This can be dangerous, especially when it's in the realm of defining the self as a victim, a hero, etc. in the context of an ideology. Why? Because ideologies were the foundation for the tragedy and to create yet another one will just add to the problem -- now we have another set of causes, another area to get our sought-after hero or victim or nationalist identity etc. that, by definition, clashes with other ideologies and is at the core of why we have wars. We need less ideology, less mythology and more reality and seeing things AS THEY ARE.

I respect your opinions and feelings on this but perhaps you need to show more respect to others. People are individuals and we each deal with things at our own pace. Some people heal and bounce back faster and some need more time.

I live in CT, a friend of mine died in those towers. I have not been back to NYC since then even though I live relatively close. I will go back one day but I'm not ready to do so yet. And no, religion plays no part in that, I'm an Agnostic. I need more time to heal. Perhaps you could be a little more charitable to those who are not as ready to move on as you are.

the media will not let us forget it as long as money can be made from it

flight 93
oliver stones movie
miniseries on abc

its all about how much $$$$$ can be made of this, just like all the other tragedies that have happened in america

remember, year after year networks have to battle for ratings "remembering 9/11"

getting over it is about not buying into all the "remembrance"

You have the right to your own opinions.
But understand that there are people who lost their love ones and friends. That is something much more than blowing up a building. The least you can do is be a little sensitive towards them.

Yes religion is a disease.
The cure? Intelligence and education. Sadly, the american administration is headed Backwards in that respect.
Imagine thinking people stupid enough to fall for "intelligent design"?
It staggers the mind...

I hate to say this but I agree with you on the hole in the ground in NY.

Religion is not to blame for this!
You got over the hole, get over the rest!

If you know the question will upset people, why ask it? If you are over it, congratulations, but leave others be.
You are a poor example of an atheist.
