We had the same problem when our dog was pregnant. The vet gave her Advantage and it worked right away. We later had 8 healthy puppies, so it won't affect them.

You will probably be able to give her a flea bath, that should not be much of a problem, because in three weeks, when the puppies are born the chemicals from the shampoo will be gone. Make sure you ask your vet before doing this though, because I'm not an expert, and may be wrong.

Frontline is safe for pregnant and nursing moms. It does NOT enter the bloodstream so it is safe for unborn pups. I'd get the fleas under control as soon as possible as there is nothing currently labeled as safe for puppies under 6 weeks of age. Treating mom now and while she is nursing is the best way to assure the pups will not become infested, which can cause death from anemia.

You can safely use Advantage on pregnant and nursing dogs. Get it from your vet. Lots of over the counter flea meds can be toxic. Advantage and Frontline do not go into the bloodstream, they just stay in the lipid layer of the skin so they are safe for pregnant dogs.

hi,
All topical products do penetrate into the blood stream, including frontline and advantage. But is it really in a minute amount and negligable even to lactating bitches... oppss.. I mean female dogs. In fact it can actually protect the newborn puppies when they are near to their mother long enough.
So dont worry, try advantage and frontline. They are safe.

very good question, call your vet and ask him iof there are any flea shampoos that you can use without harming her or the puppies. I am pretty sure that he will say use Adams Flea and tick Shampoo. Just make sure.

You can't use a topical treatment on her as it gets in her bloodstream, we had that problem one time and we got ADAMS spray . You can get it at the vet, and some feed stores.
