Your parents don't run your life, you do. If you honestly want to be with this man, and he treats you well, then consider why your parents don't like him. Has he done something to offend them? Or is it simply because he is American, and they had someone else in mind for you? They can't force you to marry anybody else. So you have a choice to make. Run away and marry him, or don't, and be miserable.

in the end, its not about making your parents happy. You should do what is going to make you happy, no matter what anyone else says. It is important to respect your parents, but they cannot dictate love

i married a greek cypriot in my 20s, my dad was a country bumpkin and very racist..it split my family..but we had two beautiful children and had nothing but warmth and love from his family and friends. we didnt make it, but i dont regret it.the people who stood in our way felt ashamed and lost face with people, it will all pan out..nothing is certain but remember that this life is all you get..go for it
