it seems like every other block has it's own police service in Washington DC. The local district police is at work, but if there is a small grassy area that is considered a "park" then the park service polices it. There are police of some kind everywhere.

It's mainly local washington police, but we also have national park service police who monitor the monuments and museums. The U.S. capitol building area also has it's own force - the capitol police (I think they're paid by the federal government).
