I Love this cat, but I'm never home to care for it, and my parents say the cat could take care of itself.

tell them that having a cat is like having a girl in the house. they need a lot of care and attention and its a big and serious commitment that shouldnt be just handed over

Just say sorry, no, or you have too much work or something. Or get a dog a scare away the cat =D. Nah, joking. Say no and tell them what great parents they were and that they could definately take care of a cat.

I love cats- but dogs fit my fancy much better. 23 lbs is a fairly large size kitty.
Theres nothing wrong with telling your parents you simply do not feel that you would be the best person to take the kitty but offer your servies to find an appropriate home.

I like cats. Just tell your parents you don't want it because you don't think you can take proper care of it. Even if you can, it will be a good excuse. Pretend you want what's best for the cat.

I like cats but I can't have one since I am taking care of my mother in her apartment. But cats are so cool. I love dogs but cats are so much fun to watch as they try to hunt (and usually are quite good at it.)
When you can get a cat to be affectionate, you have accomplished something. So why not keep it?

you need tell then even though you would like having the cat you dont have the time to spend with the cat. Cats need human interaction, not just someone to feed them.

Wow, that IS a big cat...lol. Just tell them no, you're sorry, you don't have the time or finances to properly care for such a hefty animal at the moment.
