Playing the odds it's strep throat. White spots can be yeast, too. Viruses such as CMV, HSV, among others can also cause problems like this and the only way to know for sure is to see your doctor.
You can self medicate for comfort only. Tylenol and aspirin can be taken together along with just about any cough drops. Be careful about mixing other medications: such as cough syrups with Tylenol: because often you're getting double the dose that way. If you're not sure, ask your pharmacist.
Do NOT take spare antibiotics, a practice which can lead to antibiotic resistance in bacteria and make it difficult for the doctor to diagnose in case it doesn't go away.
Hope you feel better.

When I had a similar thing it turned out to be a mouth ulcer on my clacker and tonsils, bonjela is no good, the doctor will give you a tube of this stuff which tastes like chocolate orange (but in a really disgusting way), which sorts it out within about 2 days. Try and treat it like a couple of days of fasting and detox...I couldn't eat anything when I had this, so I empathise.
