I am not an advocate for prescriptions or medicine. However my son had that and I have it from time to time, and the doctor put us on (one) of the newer SSRI's....., like Prozac, Celexa, Paxil,...etc. Talk with your physician about it. There is an answer to your problem, your not alone, and you will get better. Just like the girl who answered after I did, it ran it my family too. My mom had it, my mother's sisters had problems that was similar to yours, etc. So it can be a inherited thing. An there is nothing wrong in you trying to find a good doctor to go to!!!!

You know that you have this disorder, so why aren't you getting therapy, seeing a psychiatrist, or any of that sort? You don't have to try to come out of your shell all on your own. There is help out there. There are even medications that can help with your anxiety. My x-husband was/is the same way. I was his second girlfriend and he was 25 when we met! Our daughter was born with the social anxiety disorder, or like most people refer to it as extreme shyness. Either or it is hereditary. We put our daughter into early preschool to help her with it, and now.....ya can't shut her up! But she was 3 (and would NOT talk to other people) when we caught it and remedied it. You really should see a psychiatrist who could help you with deciding if medication or therapy would help you with your problem. My ex is 39 now and STILL has a problem dealing with people. He has only 4 friends - one is his sister and the other me. You really don't want your world to be that closed do you? We were together almost 12 years and our conversation level was at 0 most of that time! It was one of our downfalls. Please seek professional help. You'll be amazed how much of "you" will come out! Good Luck!

have you been diagnosed by a doctor as having a social anxiety disorder? A "social disorder" would mean you can't talk with "anyone" not just females. Why not take a speaking course in school to get out of your shell. And take some management courses.

A failure at what?
