When I was having a religious epiphany, and went on christian websites in order to understand what I was going to through. Those websites were filled with mean ugly people fighting over a verse, or how someone interrupted it.
I came to the conclusion that the only real Christianity was that depicted on TV and the Movies, a Hollywood fantasy.
There was already people that called themselves christian I dealt with on a daily bases that did not live up the the billing of what a christian should be. Then I read an article about sex offenders suing the state government over where they can live or not live, part of the suit was the ability to go to the church of their choice. And I began to realize something, there are many people that go to church that I wouldn't associate with at anytime, church was just a bolt hole to get something, a baptism or a confession was a way to join a gang of people that weren't all that good themselves. A way to reap the benefit of what Hollywood has depicted christian religion to be.
I stop calling myself christian and started reading about other religions and belief systems.

That's exactly what "they" want humans to do, be divided over race, religion and other trivialities so they remain blind to reality. Higher divinity has nothing to do with religion. Realizing that we are spiritual beings connected to a higher consciousness does not mean we have to label ourselves as "Christians" or "Muslims". In almost every instance, followers never reach their full spiritual potential because they are following doctrine twisted by man, and polluted over time by The Powers that Be.

Well I think I have read where even the gentle Buddhist has set light to himself on occasion in order to protest about something but of course that is not actually fighting about religion. Perhaps it is that having a total belief in a creed is necessary for people to live in this world of ours.It gives comfort and meaning and assurance to them.So that if there are others who are trying to tell them they are wrong maybe their security is threatened and they are prepared to die for their belief. It will resolve itself one day way out ther ein the future.

They fabricate a liferaft of assumption, opinion and belief in order to afford some protection from the endless waves of uncertainty that wash against the shore.

I've wondered this myself. I admit to being 'obsessed with having a religion'. Why? I want something that will give me the answers, that will show me how to live my life, that will pick me up when I'm fallen. It causes me pain and trouble, but I always think that when I find the right thing, nothing that I've been through for it will even compare to the joy it will bring me. Maybe I'm a fool, but if I am, I'm a lost one.

They are not obssessed with having a religion. They are obssessed with having their religion respected. If a person were to continually harass your family and insult who you are fundamentally as a person, would you not feel protective of yourself and loved ones?
Here the problem is that there is a great deal of ignorance and lack of respect. I believe in "If you have nothing good to say, please do not say anything however if it is good then please speak."
If those who are fearful or lack knowledge continue to oppress those who feel they are doing no wrong, then those targetted will one day no longer be able to treat this lack of respect and will fight back to "educate" those who offend in fundamental lessons of etiquette and manners. Manners maketh man, as my primary school headmistress used to say!
As far as I am concerned, having suffered mercilessly at the hands of unkind people for much of my life, I have to support those who do not let themselves be walked over and treated with disrespect.

Just a sad part of life which has been with the human race since it started and doesn't look like changing any time soon.

Seems so. Everyone wants to be the dominant species. If more people believe your religion, well then, yours must be the best. All wars are fought in the name of God, or, Gods.

i just thought i would add that- whether you agree with the teachings or not, Jehovah's witnesses also never fight against others.
That is why Jehovah's witnesses remain neutral and never get involved in wars etc.
They believe that it is wrong to hurt another human being, and have the conviction to see this through aswell.
Jehovah's witnesses are all standing shoulder to shoulder serving God, and people of all races, educational backgrounds, classes etc, all are equal to God and loved by each other.
After all Jesus said that you would recognise his discples by the love they have for one another.

Im not religious Im not obsessed with anything. I just cant stand bible thumpers who come in here and try to force their religion on others.
Note to "rag1875" You should have said "were not trying to argue we are just trying to convert them." cause thats exactly whats going on.
