What a great question. I believe a lot of people go to these "religious buildings" not just to insure everylasting life, but to reassure themselves everyweek that the religion they are in is the right one. It really helps someone believe something if there are a hundred people around you believing one thing. Thats why, if you do not attend a religious meeting, you are said to "backslide", or loose your faith. Because you realize, gee, maye this stuff isn't true after all?

I don't go there for the reasons you say. I think people go there to feel good. It is a refreshoning experience to know that there is something greater than ourselves out there. And that our petty problems aren't all that big. And that life does go on. I don't pray for myself. (I don't think too many others do either). I pray for my family, and other families. Our soldiers and I always pray for God to help anyone in need of his help. When you're a child you pray for the selfish things like toys, candy and money. But when you are a grown up and understand your religion. I think your views change and you become unselfish in your prayers. What you are saying doesn't sound like you've been in a church or "Religious building". Just making a negative statement, on somethig you alone have experienced or witnessed, or may just on ignorance...who knows. No one can judge anyone.

mmm, i must admit, i find your question a little odd, for a start, i don't think going to Church guarantees anything!
I look at it this way, i try as hard as i can to follow Bible guidelines and principles, as i believe the Bible to be a letter to humans from God.
Doing this helps me to keep a proper moral view on things and i believe helps me be a better person.
I view my personal relationship with God to be very important and going to christian meetings is encouraging and faith strengthening. I do try to help others though, i pray for them and also i am active in preaching the good news of the kingdom- to others.
Even if i never get eternal life i feel sure that by living life to the standards God expects i know that i am having the best life possible.
I do pray for others all the time- but only YOU can have a relationship with God if you want one, others cannot do it for you!

If you believe and trust in the Lord, all will be well. Believe in it. Live every second of your existance with the awareness that each second offers an opportunity to make a postive difference to your own and/or someone else's life. Avail of that opportunity. It will enrich your own experience. It will make your past days happy experiences and memories, enrich the moments of your present and your tomorrows a vision of hope.

We all do things because they meet needs. I eat because it need food to live. I go to chruch because it meets a spiritual need. I watch the NFL because its what I like, its entertainment.
My belief does have a similarness to and insurance policy. You take out insurance to cover something that you don't have. If I die I want my family to be able to have, what I would not be able to give them. My belief in the Bible, is that Jesus is the policy. He has what I don't, He is a payment for my sin, so God will accept me.

Now then how do you know I am not praying for you. The Lord's Prayer after all i s a prayer for us all. I do not think anyone believes there are any guarantees either in this life or in any after life. You really oought not to jump to these conclusions you know.

Get this straight, you are going to be everlasting, either In heaven or in hell, people hang out in church on their chosen days to build up their spirits so they can deal with all the people in the world that God has told them to seek and tell them about him and salvation, So that they can also have a home in heaven, and NOT go to that aweful place called HELL.

Because religious nuts follow the logic of Pascals wager.
If I live my life for God, and there is no God, then I have lost nothing.
If I live my life for God and there is God, then I have gained everything!
If I live my life without God, and there is no God, then I have lost nothing.
If I live my life without God, and there IS a God, I have lost everything.
It's what makes them get up in the morning.
