Are you wanting there to be a "shoplifters only" line?

I think half the problem is that the potential shoplifter doesn't realise the effects of getting caught.
For example, if you have a conviction for shoplifting, you have to declare this on job applications, university applications and some benefit forms. Convictions at any level usually make anything like this very difficult, as many employers cannot 'trust' a potential employee like this.
But I do agree with you. Because of shoplifting, the prices of things can be doubled as shops try to recoup their losses. Also, the atmosphere of crime also means that some businesses refuse to sell certain goods- one shop near to me refuses to sell some electrical goods for this reason. Also, the added security measures can be a pain, espcially if you set the alarms off by ccident or a tag is left on an item.
But at the end of the day the honest consumer does benefit. They don' gain a criminal record, and their mind and conscience is clean in the knowledge they are honest and worked for what they have bought.

it is so not worth the risk of getting caugt. I witnessed 3 people get caught shoplifting. All 3 times I was with my 5 year old daughter one time they just silently took her aside (the shoplifter not my child) one time they were waiting at the door and the most memorable one is when we were in the parking lot and the guards were chasing a woman grabbed her threw her against the wall grabbed her purse and handcuffed her when they found the item she stole. My now 14 yr old always makes sure we have receipts for even ice cream and donuts. I don't think she will ever shop lift

Shoplifters don't exactly get a good deal when they get caught, and it does happen occasionally. It's a roll of the dice for them. We are better off because we listen to our conscience. We can sleep ok and face our spouse/children without being ashamed. It sucks when the shoplifters get away, but life has a way of making you pay one way or the other.

Why don't you report the shoplifters because they are the ones making the honest consumers pay more.

Why should People be Mugged, Robbed of their Possesions and Property Stabbed , Shot and Murdered and so on , with the perbertraitors of these crimes having no more than Token Punishments and set free in no time at all to be back on the streets to continue with their rotten way or life much of it is down to the stupid useless Do Gooders who have reduced our society to a Lawless Paradise for the Criminal Fraternity

waiting in line and paying is you buying the items and buying the freedom to leave the store without looking over your shoulder for the loss-prevention worker following you. A "fair deal" is paying for what you want, not stealing it.........if you don't have the time to wait in line, then shop on the internet!

your right, they also get free accommodation and 3 square meals a day if they get caught and it is unfair that all us honest folk have to pay for them.
