It seems there was both a male and female Saint Elli. From information on Llanelly Church:-
"The church is dedicated to St. Ellyw, or Elli, a daughter or granddaughter of Brychan, who gave his name to Bryncheiniog (Brecon). By some it is said to be dedicated to St. Elli, a Saint of the 6th century (500-550), the second Abbot of Llancarfan."
If its St Ellyw, then St Elli is female. The other St Elli was an Abbot so must have been male.

You interest with saints is "bullshit". Saints are creations of flawed men who practiced a religion based on a flawed, man-made book.

he was male i answered this question not too long ago
St. Elli is said to have been entrusted by his mother to the care of St Cadoc, who was abbot at Llancarfan. St Cadoc took him with him to Llancarfan, supervised his studies and directed his life according to his mother's wish. When Cadoc was leaving for Benevnto, Elli was chosen to succeed him.
see it says HE was entrusted by HIS mother..
