It is your genetic history you need to look at, your mother's ill health may just have been the result of a poor diet as a child. I have never heard that after 7 generations it is wiped out, otherwise other genes would be wiped out as well so don't believe everything you hear. The only way that an illness can become eradicated in a family is when you and your partner are screened for certain illnesses and the chances of having a faulty gene are calculated.

Its true, but not in all cases of illness. But its established that cognitive impairment is genetic so are High Blood Pressure, Asthma, Blindness...but if the other partner has dominating genes the likely-hood is reduced.
Moreover medical science is developing daily so some illness might not get to the 7th generation as you heard b/4 remedial medication is discovered

Your Mum's bad health may the result of a poor diet when she was a child, as well as genetic factors. The gene problem is one you can't do anything about, but you can look after yourself properly to alleviate the chances of getting a preventable disease. Good diet and excercise, no smoking, limit your alcohol intake etc all make a difference to your body's chances of fighting disease and illness.

It's true, but making assumptions like "7 generations..." is unwise. As mating with genetically dissimilar partners diffuses the impact of any one hereditary line, genetic illnesses may lessen over time, but there are no specific rules for this.

I dont believe that you HAVE to go through all of the things your family has gone through. You may need to not repeat their lifestyle whatever that may be. Eat heathier, workout, no smoking etc. I do not know your families lifestyle but maybe if you see some negetives you may not want to repeat them in your life starting now!

Some illnesses are hereditary, yet some siblings are able to skip the gene pool and not be affected.
