Some people have the ability to learn many tasks and not others. People can put you down for it, but that is just their own ignorance speaking. Not every person is able to use a cash register correctly, that does not make you a bad person, or less of a person than you are. If you are unable to learn how to use the register in that particular store, that doesn't mean that you would be unable to learn another stores system. I have been in retail management over many years, and many people that I have helped train have different learning styles. Possibly the person training you could not teach you in the way that you learn the best. You may have an undiagnosed learning disorder; which you have been able to work around before with methods that made sense to you. In a situation like that, with a large store, where a lot of people are being hired and trained; sometimes the management does not have the ability due to time constraints to spend the time needed with some hirees that may be having a difficult time. I know people who have very demanding jobs in the medical and scientific research fields who cannot read a map if their lives depended upon it. That does not make them dumb or stupid, it just makes them human. You may want to check with your local school department or college. Many courses are available which you could take about the P.O.S. (Point of Sale) registers which are basically computers at this point, and the various programs. There is always a way to improve and learn new things. You could also look at this experience as your little voice, or God, whispering in your ear and telling you that this job may not be the right one for you. Do not get down on yourself and just use this as a learning experience. Good luck to you and have a good day.

Tell the people who are training you about your concerns. I'm sure they'll be much more understanding if they know you're having trouble, not just that you didn't pay attention. Make sure to ask questions if you don't understand what they're telling you, and take every opportunity to get some practice. Even though it might sound nerdy, taking notes could also help you. If there are certain aspects that seem tricky, jot them down to make sure you remember. Good luck!

practice saying this over and over- "would you like fries with that." When you think you can do that without making too many mistakes, apply at any fast food joint and you won't have to worry about how to use the register because they have pictures on the key pad. Good luck.
