* ½ cup (4 oz, 110 g) non-dairy margarine
* 4 tbsp. light syrup (golden syrup)
* 3/4 cup (3 oz, 75 g) brown sugar
* 3 cups (9 oz, 225 g) medium oatmeal
* A pinch of salt

Oven: Pre-heat to 350F (180C)

Gently melt the margarine in a pan. Remove from the heat, then add the other ingredients and mix thoroughly.

Pour the mixture into an oiled 8 x 12 in (20 x 30 cm) baking tin. Smooth down the top with a fork.

Bake for 15 - 20 minutes. The flapjacks are ready when the mixture is still soft but the top has just started to brown. This will give a moist, chewy flapjack. If you leave them to cook for a few minutes longer, they will be firm and crispy.

Score into pieces while still hot. Remove from the tin when cold.

100g of margerine, can be Tesco Value, it doesnt make any difference

4 tbs of golden syrup, doesn't have to be the real thing, and i like to use more than this amount

75g of sugar

200g of rolled oats, again these can be Tesco Value/Asda Smartprice

A saucepan, baking tray, oven, hob, wooden spoon, tablespoon and knife

THE VERY EASY INSTRUCTIONS

Melt the margerine in the saucepan, then mix in the golden syrup with the wooden spoon and leave on the hob for a couple of minutes. Then take off the hob, add the sugar and the oats (i add the oats slowly so i can make my flapjacks more squishy, if you have too many they are dryer.) You can also add a pinch of salt and any other stuff you like, e.g. chocolate, nuts, fruit. Mix it all together so that the oats are all covered in syrup. Place the mixture onto the already greased baking tray, and smooth it over with the knife. It may not fill the entire baking tray, depends on how thick you want it and the variation of the ingredients. Then bung the tray in the preheated oven (at 170c) for about 10 mins. Cut the flapjacks into slices as soon as they come out the oven because it's easier. When they are cooler, you can eat them.

MORE HINTS

Tesco Value/Asda Smartprice/equivalent ingredients are absolutely fine (from a student's point of view). Flapjacks are designed to be yummy whatever. They will also be eaten very quickly (if done right) so there is no point wasting money on more expensive stuff. You should hide the flapjack away as soon as possible to avoid it being eaten by your flatmates. I dont use scales to weigh out the ingredients, you can guess the weighs by the proportion of the total weight given on the packaging, this means you are free to use loads of golden syrup in them. Finally, make sure you turn the oven and the hob off after use, and dont let the washing up stay too long.

easy flapjack recipe

You will need:

150 grams (2 cups) rolled oats
150 grams (2 cups) flaked oats
200 grams (1 cup) of margarine
200 grams (1 cup) of sultanas
200 grams (1 cup) of dessicated coconut
4 tablespoons golden syrup
4 tablespoons brown sugar
There is a lot of margarine used in this recipe. Have faith that it is the right amount, even if it does look excessive! I prefer to use margarine that isn't too salty. Set the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4. Grease a cake tin with a little margarine. The one I use is about the size and shape of a house brick. The resultant flapjack is about an inch thick. Use whatever size tin you have that is appropriate for the recipe. Put the margarine, sugar, and syrup into a saucepan and melt together over a very low heat, stirring with a wooden spoon. You can do this in a microwave, if you wish. Do not let the mixture boil, as this will caramelise the sugar. Mix until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the mixture into a large bowl and stir in the oats, sultanas, and coconut. Mix well. You can use a wooden spoon, but in my opinion your hands are best -- just make sure they're clean first! Press the sticky mixture into the cake tin and press down with the back of a spoon or a spatula. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes, but not much more. My flapjacks come out of the oven with the same appearance they had when they went in. Maybe a little bit browner. They are also quite soft. This is normal. This will result in moist and chewy flapjacks. When cool, cut into wedges or squares, but leave in the tin until completely cold and set before removing.

why do people always put in golden syrup.

The best flapjacks in the world are just: oats, butter and demerara (<--dodgy spelling) sugar. If this simple but amazing recipe appeals let me know and I will hunt out temps and quantities...but I guess you'll go with the more usual syrupy ones.

...i had to get out of my alcohol induced sick bed for this...
6 oz butter
6 oz demerara
8 oz oats
(sorry not metric the best flapjack recipes are family heirlooms - according to nigella lawson- and my mother is imperial!)

Melt butter in the pan, add sugar, soon as its dissolved take off the heat (better under-dissolved rather than over-dissolved...if you know what I mean...leave it too long and they ain't so good) and mix in the oats. Put in flapjack tray and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 20 mins. Mark out in tin when they first come out before they're too hard. Then leave in the tin to cool.

Remember to always be careful when cooking with butter as it burns really easily.

Oh my God. I have THEEE best recipe for you! I have never had anything like it, even though it sounds like it's a boring, every day traditional dessert. Just try it sometime. You'll be amazed, I promise!! Heat oven to 350. In a square baking dish place 1 stick butter and melt in oven. Mix batter with hand mixer: 1 cup sugar 3/4 cup flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons baking powder 3/4 cup milk When butter is melted remove from oven and put 1 cup of raspberries and 1 cup of blueberries on top of butter. Dont mix. Pour batter on top of berries and butter. Dont mix. Bake for about 1/2 hour until top is golden brown.
