these are all great answers, i bet the asker was pleasantly surprised that he wasn't bashed by brainwashed Christians for his blasphemy.. perhaps there is hope after all for people. Maybe more and more are feeling free to express free will and not feel they have to parrot the church's dogma...St. Malachy predicted one more pope after this one, Nostradumus had similar predictions, we are living in interesting times people...don't give up on your faith to your God, however you choose to see him/her, i don't, i just don't need a middle man like the pope....

The more the common folk know, the more there is to doubt of what the preachers say. Religion acted as a substitute to science to explain the unknown, as in magic and such. It was so widely accepted that it spread to government, causing theocracys.
God does allow men free will, so I really don't think the Pope should oppose almost everything that he disagrees with. As science progressed, people saw a contradiction in religious teachings and then there became two explanations for almost everything: The scientific explanation and the "Oh, God did this" explanation. The Pope is just trying to stay on top and not drown under science, which contradicts religion.

You first assumption is uncorrect.
The Catholic Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation.
For example, at this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.
As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.
With love in Christ.

The Pope has merely (and finally) admitted that Christianity cannot stand up to modern scientific evidence. The arrogance of his statement was in 1) saying that this means we should choose against science, and 2) his implication that the Christian conception of God is the only one.But admitting the clear opposition between Christianity and science will hopefully be a clear marker of the death knell of Christianity.

the tale of genesis basically gave the why and what of creation, in spite of the fact that it did no longer say how. This trouble-free interpretation is frequently missed with the help of maximum Christians and materialists. some say that if we developed from apes then we'd have an identical souls as apes and there does not be lots huge distinction between people and primates. i individually do no longer agree that people basically magically popped into life. God confirmed that creation is a technique. In genesis it says that God created Adam from clay. all of us comprehend from technological know-how that people and various different residing and non-residing issues are made up from the climate of the earth or maybe the universe. So no longer all Christians have faith in creation as study and not all Christians have faith in evolution as study becuase evolution is basically an concept no longer a actuality besides the undeniable fact that some might have faith it to be so. .

I think that if this is true that Pope Benedict may be quite likely the worst Luddite to hold that office - His comment about Canadians turning against god because they have a legal system that recognizes equal rights for everyone - including homosexuals is patently absurd and out of touch with the times.
What's next? is he going to tell us that, "the world is flat - so don't sail west you'll fall off the edge..."

If you truely and totally chose to reject science, then you better be prepared to live like a cave man! The Pope still rides in an automobile, doesn't he? Maybe he needs to start walking.

I am a Christian but i believe the whole system of papacy and infallibility is ridiculous. that is nowhere taught in the Bible. I dont think the pope should be thought of as infallible, sure he might be a good preacher but that does not mean he is right 100% of the time

The Pope is mistaken, if anything mixing religion and science, God put science on earth for us to find out.
I would definitely believe science over religion-based claims any day. Whichever has unmistakable proof, is the one I believe.
