Complicated. Visa is part of the process; green card is evidence of right of permanent residence.

A visa is issued by the host country for a reason, There is work visa, student visa, immigration visa, travel visa, etc. When a person is cleared for an immigration visa, it is likely that the person can apply and receive a green card which allows the person to stay here indefinitely and allows the person to apply for citizenship. Most of the other visa have a time frame. Once it expires, they have to leave the country and reapply if they have to come back.

A visa is issued by the country to which you are travelling for permission to stay longer than 90 days and is placed in your passort.

A green card is an identification document issued by the United States of America affording non-citizens of that country some of the rights its citizens enjoy, sometimes with the prospect of naturalization.

Green Card refers to the official card issued by the US government to lawful permanent residents (immigrants) as evidence of their authorization to live and work in the United States. The Green Card represents security to its holder. It instantly communicates to law enforcement officials and US employers the right to permanently live and work in the United States. He can obtain a greencard through his fiance.

A visa grants the holder the right to apply for entry into the United States but only for a relative limited time of stay.
