wow- there are not enough thank you's said in this world. If everyone just thanked everyone else for any effort they put out (whether they are getting paid for it or not), don't you think this world would be a more positive place? Just think-that poor bus driver is probably not making very much money, don't you think it would be nice to add some other value to his job, like purpose, worthiness, and that people appreciate what he does? A job is not all about money, it should also be about the fact that you feel you are doing something worthy. If no one thanks you, it would be a .....thankless job!!

Bus driver hear. A little manners go a long way. Yes I work for money like every one else. But for me to say hi when someone boards my bus or some one to say thanks when leaving does not cost a penny. If every one had manners the world would be a better place.

They are being polite to the bus driver for picking them up and getting them to their destination safely. It is polite to do so, even if it the drivers job.

Hmmm... and the wait staff is also doing their job to make money... and the butcher, and the banker, and the police officer and the....
How about extending the thank you to, "thank you for getting me to my destination in a safe and timely manner"? It's not going to kill you to be polite and it will more than likely make someone's day a lot better.

Maybe they're thanking the driver for doing their job well enough to get them safely to their destination.

I have to admit I think that's a bit wierd when I see it. You aren't techinically required to thank someone for doing the job they getting paid to do but it's a nice thing to do. Maybe they're just trying to brighten up someone's day.
