The left side top of the window is lower than the right. I cannot hang a rod as anything I put on it will just slope to the lower side. I am willing to try almost anything that will look good.

Treat it
1) As another reader said as a straight top window. Hang a rod level across the top of the window and allow your fabric to drop over the top evenly, so the top is covered.
2) Hang a wooden rod on the angle of the window. put short screws into the top of the rod every few inches. The rings you use on the rod will be held in place by the screws.
3) Buy a custom made Shade or Blind or Shutter to be measured and installed by a Window treatment company.
4) If the window is high up...which most trapezoids are...and your uncomfortable working at that height again, let the Window treatment company install and hang both your blind or shade as well as your fabric top treatment. This path is more expensive but your promised to get the look your after.

I would see only a few options for that:

a) have plantation shutters fitted for that particular window
b) Use a regular curtain over it all disregarding the trapezoid shape... and hang the curtain as you would a regular curtain
c) Have a highly pleated curtain to FIT the trapezoid shape.. the problem with this is that you would not be able to open the curtain..

You did not, unfortunately, tell me HOW big the window was or if the window is a main window or if it is higher up on the wall

Maybe he means you cant put up some kind of rods that would damage the walls, if that is the case get some of those tension rods that fit inside the window. OR maybe he is a pervert and wants to watch you though the windows at night. If you cannot find anything in your lease, make a copy of it, (be sure and keep the original away from him) and ask him to show you where it says you cannot put up curtains.

Make a template the shape of the window and make your own curtain that fits its shape. Instead of using a rod - find some cool hooks and mount them to a 1x4 board that you can either paint or stain to match your furniture. Then mount hooks on the board every 4" and hang your curtain from these hooks - you could do fabric loops or matching hooks on the curtain or button holes or grommets in the curtain -

Cut out your own curtain in the shape of your window, use tension rods on all sides.

Use top and bottom rods. Cut your fabric (don't buy packaged curtains!) accordingly beforehand and you should have no problem. Hem the curtains on both top and bottom.

This might help if you have miniblinds.

http:www.slideonbrackets.com it's a new product I found and I love the idea of it! I am too clumsy for tools and have no patience for measuring and leveling. Hope it helps.
