I am having this relationships with a girl who lives in Thailand for 3 years already. We meet 1 or 2 times a year. We have a good relationship.
The answer is to keep touch as often as possible. E-mails, SMS, MSN/Yahoo Messsenger, Skype and of course real paper letters and cards are the key for us.
Any relationship works when both parties are working together. Distance is not a permanent barrier.

In my previous experience, it depended on the commitment of both people. Right now, it is working. I live in the USA and she lives in Thailand. It takes a lot of communication, written and oral. Lots of emails and few phone calls and several long visits. I went to Thailand twice to date for a week at a time to visit her. I am going in November for 4 days. So far her biological clock has not gone off. Though it seems to be ticking. You have to be committed to doing it, from the heart not from the sexual organs. This takes some introspection, looking within.

Not really, it's hard to keep a guys attention and 9 times out of 10 he will cheat. Girls tend to be more trusting but they are just as suspect because guys prey on the weak minds. So if your relationship isn't strong in the beginning youre screwed

Long distance relationships can work as long as they are not long term. This type of relationship takes the ULTIMATE in commitment. If you are not a mature person who is truly in love, and your partner is the same, you will not succeed in keeping a long term relationship alive.
If you have a definite period of time that the separation will end, it will help. You would need to be particualrly attentive to what is going on in the other person's life and they would need to be the same from their end.
Good luck!!

well sometimes they do my mom and her boyfriend live in different states bout 4 away and they love each other to death! it all depends on if you love them if you trust them and if you are willing to not see them for long periods at a time! i think that if you are young them you shouldn't have long distance realtionships but if you are older then you can do it but it takes a lot of strength! good luck and god bless!

Long distance relationships can work, but they can't last forever. If you really like somebody and you can make the most of your time together you can be across the country and still make it work. I tried it, but eventually the distance was too great, but it was still worth it. One of my sister's friends tried it and they're happily married after 4 years of weekend getaways. It can work.

It really all depends on BOTH parties, but i've seen it possible,so i'll say yes,it can,but I guess when it comes to that though, the Loyalty and Trust level is really put on the test, but if you really love that person, then I believe it's time to really put the test in action then.

Some do, some don't. It requires real comitment on the part of BOTH parties involved. I many cases, there are entirely too many people where you both are trying to get your attention.
