Yeah AVI can hurt yur head. Windows media player may go on the net to try and download the codec. If unsucessful, u can go to the file itself, right click, properties and they will give u the information on the file also what kind of codec especially if u click preview. My guess is u may need a Divx or Xvid codec which is avaliable free on the net. Try and see if u can get the K-Lite Codec Pack, Has all those Codecs that windows dont have.. Laterz

If you don't have Windows XP, then get Windows Media Player version 9. Then get the Windows Updates in the software section for the codecs.
If you have Windows XP, then get Windows Media Player 10 (but don't get the version 11 BETA). Then get the Windows Updates in the software section for the codecs.
Visit http://www.microsoft.com and click on DOWNLOADS. Look for the Windows Media Player section

leave aside ur window media player and all the above answers. Just download free vlc media player from http://www.videolan.org/ it will play everthing

its prob a codec problem
i would recommend a decent media player
media player classic (freecodecs.com)
plays just about anything
and you can get codec packs from there (k-lite etc etc)
