Oh, I dunno....maybe because they are, next to your brain, the most essential components of your body?
Lungs oxygenate your blood. Heart pumps this oxygenated blood to the body.
If one of these organs craps out, you're dead.

The strength of the heart and lungs is also known as Cardio Respiratory Endurance. If your heart is strong, you will be a less likely candidate for heart attack. You will also have better muscular endurance because your muscles will receive fuel and oxygen faster.
Aerobic exercise will take care of this for you. We should all make aerobic exercise a habit. The benefits of having a strong aerobic habit? Here are a few: the ability to think clearly and creatively, a strong sex life, courage under stress or in emergency situations, the experience of well-being, a body that tends to find its ideal weight without effort, rejuvenating sleep, and healthy appetite for food and for life itself. There are many more. We really don't have enough time not to develop such a habit.
Add a bit of weights to the aerobic routine and wow!
See a doctor before starting any exercise program, however.
