i have no clue how to use my IPOD NANO. how do you get songs to download?

Use iTunes. You can download songs from the iTunes store, or you can use it to rip mp3s from your CD collection. iTunes can handle mp3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless and AAC formats. It can then copy your songs to your Nano.
