I have one mini long-haired dauchsund, and I absolutely love him. I don't know why they're so smart, they just are. I do know that one of the things that makes dauchsunds special, is that they can show emotion in their faces, unlike other dogs, who just bark and wag their tails(I still love those types of dogs though).

I have 3 of the little dears. I asked them and they all agree that yes they are absolutely the smartest dogs in the world! But they are very opinionated....... One, the male, thinks I should be able to read his mind and I guess I do ok according to him. The females never agree on anything -- except this Q.
I really don't know why or care that they are so smart. Two are rescue doggies and they love the family.

I THINK they are very INTELLIGENT. MY Aunt died about 5 years ago, and her dachshund jumped out the bath room window. HE went next door to tell the neighbors. THAT dog scratched on that door till people answered. The dog made the neighbors follow him next door. MY aunt was dead there was nothing that any one could do. At that point in time i knew they were probably the smartest dogs on earth.

Actually the top 5 smartest breeds are:
German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Poodle and Collie (not necessarily in that order but I think it is)

They aren't. Not even close; They rank 49th out of 79 breeds. Try doing a search for dog intelligence, #1 is border collie, #2-poodle.#3-german shep,#4-golden ret,#5-doberman,#6-shetland sheepdog,#7-lab,#8-papillon.#9-rottweiler,#10-australian cattle dog. You get the picture....and be glad you don't have #79-Afghan hounds sound like a pain.

Where did you get a crazy idea like that?? Well, if it were true then maybe more police departments need to use them to sniff out drugs and chase criminals . LMAO Like anyone would be afraid of a dachshund.

Breed has nothing to do with intelligence of a dog. Dogs are like people some are smart and some aren't - irregardless of race or breed.

It's all just a matter of personal preference. I actually have short hair and guys like it. And i prefer a person with short hair over a guy with long hair because long hair tends to make guys look as well girly.
