Why are whites called 'honky'? Is it white funerals that had bagpipes? Whites with cars that honked to get walkers off the road?

Origin
Honky, when used as a pejorative meaning white, was first used in 1967 by black militants within SNCC seeking a rebuttal for the term ******. They settled on a familiar word they felt was disparaging to certain Americans of European descent; hunkie meaning an American of Slavic or Hungarian descent.[1][2]

The word "honky" as a pejorative for caucasians comes from "bohunk" and "hunky". In the early 1900's, these were derogatory terms for Bohemian, Hungarian, and Polish immigrants. According to Robert Hendrickson, author of the Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins, African-American workers in Chicago meat-packing plants picked up the term from white workers and began applying it indiscriminately to all Caucasians.

I have never been able to put that feeling into words- this to me is perfect! I have had those feelings before the crows come - all my life. I have prayed not to know because it scares me knowing I have no idea what will be, I have no way of stopping it, but I know it's coming. Oh ma I love you so much for this and I hug you and pray- be strong and brave.

They used to drive to the "Black" part of town to pick up the people who worked for them, say a cleaning lady etc and they would honk their horns from the street on arrival. This was significant because it is polite to go up and knock on the door, and rude to honk the horn so they were labeled as honkys.
