Dogs in the hound group have the keenest noses. Bloodhounds have more scent receptors than any other breed so of all the hounds, Bloodhounds have the best sense of smell. You might walk in the kitchen and smell a cake, freshly baked, and in your mind you think, "cake". A hound will walk by and smell eggs, flour, flavorings and their components, sugar, salt, baking powder, the metal in the pan, the soap that pan was washed in last week, the individual ingredients in that soap, the scent of the person that took that cake out of the oven, every possible scent and ingredient on or in that cake is easy for the bloodhound to smell.

The scent hounds...the Bloodhound seems to have an excellent ability to track, they can keep the scent in the folds of the face. Shepherds and Malinois are used for drug and explosive detection more for their ability to maintain focus and drive and not get distracted by all the additional scents. The hounds have a nose that is more sensitive but they lack the focus if it's not for finding quarry.

Bloodhounds, there noses are so keen and accurate that their findings can be used as evidence in court. (you know, like when they track a criminal to his/her house and there is not enough other evidence to convict them, just the fact that the hound trailed them there is allowed to be used during the trial).
