Hi! It is very important for both you and your dog's safety to restrain him/her while you are traveling. I have an SUV and purchased a barrier for the back (similar to this: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=1035&Ntt=travel&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&N=2001).

If this isn't an option -- you could try a harness that attaches to a seat belt (for example: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441778123&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302032887&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&bmUID=1157901968785&itemNo=5&Ntt=seat+belt&In=All&previousText=seat+belt&N=2). I have not used one of these before, but they seem to be a good alternative.

Finally, you could use a crate in the back seat (depending on the size of your car -- and the size of your dog!). Have fun on your trip! :-)

The same way you take yourself in the car while traveling long distance...in the back seat with a few stops along the way so the dog can pee. Mine loves laying in the back seat or sitting on the back seat with his face in between the seats. If you have an SUV or a truck you can have the dog stay in the crate/carrier. If you have a small dog there are "doggy seatbelts" you can purchase from the pet store. Let's face it, I've never met a dog that didn't like car rides.

you should never ever take the dog in car if they not potty trained and depending on how long the drive is.

DIVE TIME

1 Hour 5 month
2 hour 1 year

any thing on from that the dog still has to use bathroom like we do when we in the car we gotta take em to the potty at a rest stop like we do if it is good potty trained it might make a 3 hour trip but any longer u need to take it to the potty

Put she in a place where she can see thru the window, or else she will have car sick.

By the way tell you some jokes, and the jokes goes:

-Doctor! I have a serious problem, I can never remember what i just said.
-When did you first notice this problem?
-What problem?

One more joke:

A guy calls his vet and says "What should I do with my cat?Vet says "What do you mean? Guy says "I had a leak in my lawnmowers gas tank and the cat drank the gas. Then the cat began to run around and around the yard, climbed a tree. then fell out of the tree stiff. Vet says "Is the cat dead? Guy replies "nope he ran out of gas.

One of my dogs was so fearful of going in the car...don't know why, we had him since he as 6 wks. old...anyhow our vet told us to give him benedryl 25mg. capsule, I used the generic of benedryl also, b4 traveling...it is not harmful for the dog and it calms them, possibly even sleepy. You will need to give the dog the dose of meds again in 4 hrs. depending on the distance of the trip...Now something I just thought of is my dog was a chihuahua, small dog, so that is probably why the vet told me to give only 25 mg. but if your dog is bigger, I definitely would check with your vet....Good luck. Happy Traveling.
~Peace~

We bought a Chevy Tahoe to haul our german shepherds in so they'd be comfortable and not cramped on long trips.
They have plenty of room to sleep and play with toys while we drive.
It has rear air conditioning so they're very comfortable.

mine loves to stand between the front seats with her nose in the vents smelling all the air coming in... :)
she's fine with the drive as long as i stop every couple hours to give her a chance to get out.
