You can't handle the truth?

Curious but do not expect too much, but for all the Posers, mantra repeters { Bush Lied/kids died etc...} how much "American History" do you know? If none I don't blame you but I blame the system. I honestly believe if "Americian History" was mandatory from the Mayflower to present and taught with vigor I do not think there would be so many self-discovered people that want to catch the train of pollsters and repete what they hear as if it was un-deniable.The Civil War was more of a test of Linclons resolve to stay the course,, Point being, our teachers be it them or school board,,etc.are NOT teaching your/my kids squat!! Just how they feel about politics which is in the high 80 to low 90 liberal percentile group. Not much balance? Teach you just enough to talk and count money, that way you R easier to handle and since grade school taught bare minium about your roots U just hold on to their thoughts and know it HAS to be right! WRONG! Where have I screwed up? if true what can be done

To a large extent I agree with you. I would mandate teaching history, not just American History from the time of the Mayflower. Much of our cultural roots are founded in English history going back as much as 3,000 years. They are a significant part of what make us who we are.

Our laws mean nothing without an understanding of Old English Common Law beginning at least with the Great Charter (Magna Carta) in 1215. Personally I would begin far beyond that event which has little meaning without the understanding of William’s invasion of 1066 and the Celtic and Saxon village law which preceded it.

Today people have little historic perspective. For example, many of the great economic redevelopment programs of President Franklin Roosevelt where developed under President Hoover. In Fact it was his wife, First Lady Lou Henry Hoover, who began the radio fireside chats and even initiated the desegregation of the White House.

Sad! Sad! Sad!

The only way to change this trend is to elect people to local boards of education who understand the importance of broad teaching of facts. For myself I provide seminars of Constitutional history.

As a parent with kids in an alternative democratic free school which runs as a true democracy, I would have to assert that it is YOU who may not know history too well. Im pretty sure that my 8th and 5th graders know more about participating in a democracy with a rich history than you do. I really enjoyed your rant though, but unfortunately I think yu might need to go back and revisit not only the "facts" but the context and the times. History is only relevant when a society can put it into perspective and find current relevance. Furthermore, the notion that everyone who thinks that Bush lied is somehow lacking in history education is just LOONY.

In deed. Education is a blessed thing, ignorance is so expensive and the truth of course is sacred!

The American Manifest Destiny in conjunction with the Louisiana Purchase perpetuated a movement that would even make Cortez proud. Today, we enjoy the bi-products of an American Global Manifest Destiny.

Remember, how "history" is taught comes from the perspective & "bias" of who is writing the lesson/book. History is so rich & complex. . .but it is always good to be mindful that it is filled with human bias & conjecture.
