Yep, my friends tell me I am the king of picking up girls and I have gotten hundreds and hundreds of girls numbers. Here is the trick: don't try and say anything special! The most successful lines I have are "Hey do you know what time it is?" and "Hi (with a smile)". The biggest thing in meeting girls is getting past the creep factor which is most nice, pretty girl's response to people they don't know.

You can doing that by just saying Hi or talking about something relevant to what is going on. Coming up to a girl in a library and talking about her eyes would feel weird if you were the girl, and it not only doesn't work, it makes her more guarded when a real man comes along.

The other key to remember is that if a girl wants to talk to you, once you open the door of conversation she will make it really clear if she is interested. If a girl is interested in me I can just say hi and when she responds I'll know if she wants to talk usually because she will literally keep talking and make it easy for me to keep talking as well. If she's not interested you'll get short answers and no eye contact. Don't try and talk to women who are staring at the ground, this is usually a depressed, busy, or baggage laden girl.

Example of a strikeout:
"Hey hows it going"(smile)
(brief glance, fake smile)"hey"

Opportunity:
"Hey hows it going"(smile)
(looks you in the eyes and smiles)"Hey"(continues to look in your eyes and waits for you to say something else, or asks you something")

Bottom line is a girl that is interested is easy to talk to, and pick up lines are counter productive. Also, and it took me a long time to figure this out, pick up lines put girls on the spot and make them nervous sometimes, and thats the last thing you want. Sometimes they actually like you but they feel so nervous because you are blowing them up with some lame line that you don't get #s

No idea tom, one day a guy came up to me and asked if I like baked potatoes, and if so, how do I take them... with beans or melted cheese?!! I thought he was nuts but then he said he thought I had nice eyes and didn;t know any good chat up lines, although the converstaion was short it was quite endearing that he admitted he wanted to chat me up but didn't know what to say!! Lol!

Well, to touch the heart today or tomorrow...try the following:

What were you doing on September 11th. Not so romantic. But it will bring a strong memory and is very appropriate. No matter what the person will love talking to you for a while. Then you can move it on to something more romantic.

Call them "Greetings" not chat-up lines. That usually bothers me the most.

Back to your question, try "Hi, my name is _____, What is your name?"
