It means support of comrades & friends OVER family. The full expression is "The Blood of the Battlefield runs thicker than the Water of the Womb". It absolutely does NOT mean support of family over friends.

its like the people who share your blood (meaning your family) should be more important to you than say some one with no family conection
in other words if there was anrgument between a family member of yours and a friend of yours people could say 'blood is thicker than water' meaning that you should stick with the family member.
sort of stupid thing to say i think but thats what it means anyways.

If u were to take a drop of water and let it drip off of anything it would slide quickly but a drop of blood would stick to the object.
This is a reference to family. A blood relation is one that you stick to and give loyalty to over one that is not which is equivilent to water. The bond there is stronger. That is what makes marriage such a unique bonding.

Blood related yur own family and it here means yu can change friendship any other relation which yu made but yu at all cant change the blood relation wheather yu like it or not. Yu cant in any circumstances can say he is not yur uncle, brother, cousin etc but for yu can he is not now my friend.
