It depends what kind of business you are interested in opening. First of all you would definitely need your parents help on this one- they might have to help you handle any driving you may need to do, etc. What are you looking to open? A book-writing business? A picture-printing business? A drawing business? A snack-stand (actually, I know a boy in the neighborhood who had a door-to-door soda and snack delivering service)? It has to be pretty simple for you to be able to open one. You aren't going to be able to open like a restaurant. Think of a name for your business. Get a website for your business (you can find plenty of free-website providers ( http://www.freewebs.com/, http://www.freeservers.com/, also to get a free domain name, check out http://www.dot.tk/ ). Also, you can make a free email address for your bussiness at http://www.aim.com/ or on Yahoo!. I can give you more information if you can tell me what kind of business you are looking to open. Good luck!

A 14 year old certainly has the potential to learn about responsibility. Depending upon the maturity level, a business would probably be a good idea.

Yes, and plenty have done so, even though most of them have been rather small businesses. Keep in mind, though, that you cannot expect others to support you just because you are 14. For example, if you looked at a business and thought, "I could do that better," you can't just ask your parents to give you the money to get started (although if you work out a repayment plan and you have parents with money, you can ask them for a loan, making clear that it is just that - a loan, which you have figured out how to repay). You cannot expect your relatives and their friends to buy your products or services just because they feel sorry for or like you. You need to think like a businessperson - that you have something to offer that other people will want.
I wish you the best - it is people like you with dreams who end up being successful. Just don't get discouraged if the first few businesses fail - that seems to be the common experience of most successful entrepreneurs.

depends on the 14 year old, if they are a genius and they know what they are doing and understand all the concepts behind it then sure, but if they are some stupid flunk-out then no.
