To Sunpekes - Again you're another one judging without knowing who or what I am...and I do have a business to talk to the kids...for your information I talk to thousands of kids every year...but not in Sunday School. The reason for my question is for advice for a talk I have to give to Sunday School kids. I am not a Sunday School teacher..and have no intention of being one!! My attitude is A1...but get really fed up with peeps like you..if you have no intention of answering the question..then move on!!

I think that treasure is a relationship with Jesus...if you talk about how to treasure Jesus and why, the children learn about serving and loving the truth of life..
Additional comment. I really question that if you are representing God in Sunday school, why you talk to the crude people...As a believer that I hope you are if your teaching child you should always represent your self as a Godly person...You should have know the mean people were going to answer and took it with salt...Now what you have done has made you original question a joke to the nonbeliever because you represented yourself negatively
God bless you with the lesson I pray the children really get something out of it.

Why are you asking us? Ask God. The holy spirit will guide you. If you are mature enough to be a Sunday School teacher you're mature enough to be lead by the Holy Spirit.
Use His timing. Sometimes he waits so long that He (Btw; I'm guessing @ gender) waits to speak so that He can speak through you and so you can't say it was you.
I guess I need an example; so, here it goes:
I remember when I was a phase I disciple at the Union Gospel Mission of Dallas. You are not supposed to be eligible the discipleship devotion until Phase I. However; this did not stop anybody from saying for some insane reason it was time I lead one. Of course I accepted; after all, have I ever backed down from a challenger before? Okay then.
I prayed. Actually I more begged God to show me what to do and say. He didn't show me until it was time and then it was like He was working through me. I opened up the hymnal to the exact song. I would open up the bible to the exact verses I need multiple times and used the exact method (which the Holy Spirit used a more Jewish way of teaching I learned later) which engaged the other disciples. Both disciple AND staff said how great I did. When I told them it wasn't me they didn't quite understand. It scared me nearly to death but it taught me a ver valuable lesson.
You'll be fine. Ask for guidance multiple times.
P.S.

Why are you cussing us out? My wife found this and was concerned and so am I. You asked a question onYahoo! Anybody can answer with anything. If this is the attitude you teach your students then I fear for them. You need to get control of yourself. If you don't want an answer then don't ask the question-- especially not here.

How old are the kids?
There are lots of ways to play on the word treasure. For younger children you might be able to come up with a game where kids search for hidden treasure and talk about the parable that someone else here mentioned of the treasure in the field.
Older children could maybe talk about what it means to store up treasures in heaven (although, really, delayed gratification doesn't seem to come to even the oldest members of our society.
I also like the treasure in jars of clay passage from 2 corinthians, although I'm not sure what the teaching point would be there.

I'm a children's worker, hopefully I can help.
Why not ask the children what they think treasure is?
Maybe get a box or a small chest and fill it with words like 'Love, Jesus, forgiveness and so on. '
Talk about how these are real treasure.
Maybe show a small clip from a pirate film or National Treasure.
You could decorate the room with Pirate stuff like jolly rogers, get someone dressed up as a pirate.
regardless make sure that you keep to the point about what real treasure is.
Hope these few ideas help.

Most Sunday schools have a book to follow. A treasure is something we wish to keep to ourselves. Information can be a treasure, as can knowledge we accumulate from the many sources and experiences of life.

the greatest treasure of all is truth. as far as sunday school goes, the truth is trying to teach vulnerable young minds to worship hypocrisy. ask them who the first serial killer was or who was the biggest ever mass murderer. as the teacher you will "in truth" be able to provide the correct answer.....God! remember the great flood? or soddam & gomorrah? then ask them if it is the truth that there is hipocracy in the commandment "thou shalt not kill"
i'm truly sorry if this answer offends your religeous sensibillities (honestly) but no worshiper of the christian or jewish faiths have ever been able to even attempt a reasonable answer to these question for me.
the usuall response is always a glazed expression followed by accusations of blasthemey

Treat Gods written word like the man who found treasure in a field that he was plowing, so he went and sold all that he had and bought that field.

You "treasure" your parents as though you have found a treasure..of gold..but your parents are worth more because they are created by God as we all are..and let them bring a small picture of their parents of grandparent and make a covered board with gold coins pin to their pictures..

try and make it visual you could have a picture of 2 roads and a box with bits of paper written on them would be things like going to church on one stealing on the other and so on ask the children on which rd does each one belong after telling them the straight and narrow rd leads to jesus, one road will be straight the other crooked, and then stick the bits of paper on the right rd good straight rd bad crooked rd its easy to set up and the kids love it
