I am most familar with the NIV and remembered several incidences of the disciples and others referring to Jesus as Rabbi. Elsewhere there are references to him as 'Teacher' which I believe is a related word, if the old neurons I'm dusting off are correct. This is a quick list of this word as found in the NIV:

you won't find it in the so-called "Old" Testament because it was written before the concept of Rabbis (teachers) was developed. It does occur in the "New" Testament - Jesus was a village Rabbi himself - simply because he was a teacher and " a good Jewish boy" (Red Sea Pedestrian :-) ) - at first anyway. After he became a heretic, he would have been expelled from the Jewish community.

matthew 23:8 uses the word rabbi. there it is used to show the hypocrasy of the pharisees in jerusalem in jesus's time

It is a word used after the Holy Scriptures were written. I think they did use it in what you call the NT.
