There is no evidcence for macro evolution. None.

Archaeopteryx was proven to be a fraud.

If someone could follow up with a source, that would be great. But as you will see, there will be none shared below this answer.

In science nothing is truly ever "proven". The theory of evolution was proposed based upon not only physical observation but also clinical trials. The paradigm suggests that genetic mutation is observed in living species. Some mutations are benefitial and some are not, and are caused by a variety of factors including environment. The theory is supported by the geological record, which appears to suggest an evolutionary progression on this planet, from simple to more complex varieties of life. There are still many unknowns regarding evolution. Scientific theory is testable. Theology is not testable. Miracles are not testable, because the nature of a miracle is one of a singular event which is unduplicatable.

Interestingly, In Japan, there is a species of frog which, when viewed from above, resembles the appearance of a Samuri warrior. it is postulated that the species evolved in appearance this way because the Japanese considered them sacred...ergo did not hunt them. Therefore the evolution of the frog's appearance is considered to be caused by interaction with mankind.

Conversly, science has not yet identified the evolutionary process regarding the formation and function of the eye. The complexities of this organ are considered by some to be too complex to have occurred naturally, and raised the postulation of "intelligent design".

We are simply to ignorant at this time to understand the anwers, and have not collected sufficient evidence to rule anything out. But this should not create an environment which rejects scientific reason for the sake of spiritual belief. We did not know about the theory of flight in the first century BC, and anyone observing a flying machine at that time would have probably considered it "spiritual" or "magical". Reserve judgement and keep asking questions.

Because this argument has been going on for such a long time, and because the people who support science find themselves having to answer the same questions time and time and time again, there's a place called TalkOrigins that's gathered all the answers in one place. If you want to know about evolution, it's a good place to start. Read "29 Evidences for Macroevolution" for an in-depth look at why evolution is not just a hypothesis. Read "Fossil Hominids" to see why human evolution in not a hypothesis, either.

You can also find an interesting article on one creationist site, "Arguments we think creationists should NOT use."

Nothing gets proved, scientifically or otherwise. No matter how many times you observe something happening there COULD be a counter example. On the other hand it is often easy to falsify (show to be false).

K R Popper gave the example of white swans. How many white swans do you need to see before you can prove that all swans are white? And how many black swans (which they have in Australia) do you need to see before you disprove the theory that all swans are white?

On this basis all scientific theories are unproven and what we do is find out whats wrong with them and try and come up with better theories. We try and find out whats wrong with the better theories and come up with new theories to fix those problems. Copernicus had a theory that the planets when around the sun in circles, it didn't quite work and Newton's theory fixed that problem. Then they found what was wrong with Newton's theory and Einstein came up with a new theory which fixed that, nut led to new problems.

Now the new thoeries are not "instant" and there is a bunch of things that don't work in current evolutionary theories. But the key things is that I used the plural - evolution is a whole bunch of theories constantly developing as they find out bits that the previous theories couldn't explain.

All evidence points to evolution's usefulness in predicting and explaining the issues at hand. A hypothesis is much more simple. Evolution has achieved the standard of an overarching theory that is used to explain a broad spectrum of observed events. The term theory here is not used in a way to suggest it's under question. Instead, it's a model of understanding that has been repeatedly shown to help advance science.

Evolution has been proven.

It is observable, repeatable and has left massive amounts of evidence of having happened. Most people don't know even what evolution is. Evolution is "genetic change over time." More controversial is speciation--the change of one species into another. But that also is observable, with again massive amounts of evidence to back it up.

Not every question about evolution has been answered. But then, that is also true of gravity (and yes, scientists do speak of the "theory" of gravity even though its existence is proven beyond doubt).

Those who claim evolution is nothing but a hypothesis are either ignorant or lying.

It depends what you mean, if you mean empirically than it has. Experiments, and rigourous observation and testing of it.
It is demonstrated by the wildlife on the Galapagous Islands that Darwin investigated long ago.
Birds who derived from the same ancestor had adapted over time to the specific conditions of the island and the food that was available to eat. Different length beaks and claws etc.

They weren't adapting to a predetermined goal. Rather that individual variation in the birds enabled some birds to gather more food than others, thus their chances of survival increased and they went on to have more children.

It is a common misconception to think that any aspect of science is a "proven fact"
For instance the earth moving round the sun is not a "fact" it is a theory that is backed up by lots of observation and experiments and testing.
Nothing in science is a fact like a "historical fact"

Proven scientifically. Detailed descriptions aside about "prove" - "theory" means proven according to scientific standards, "hypothesis" means something to be tested to see if it can be proven.

Unfortunately, both sides now treat it axiomatically so you won't get a lot of non-dogmatic answers.

It has been proven - not only by all of the fossils which have been found over the years, but also much more recently in the "progression" of DNA from one species to another. By DNA we are extremely close to chimpanzees, and that is not intended as an insult-!! Also - both insects and bacteria "evolve" when it comes in their developing immunity to certain pesticides or antibiotics. That is why we have some 'super bugs' which are resistant to standard antibiotics. Evolution does NOT in any way imply that there is no God-! It just means that this is the way that God accomplished things here on this (tiny!) Earth!!

Hypotheses are concepts that have yet to undergo scientific testing and assessment.

A theory is a hypothesis that has been investigated scientifically to such a degree that predictions are made that subsequently have been shown to be true.

Evolution is a theory, same as gravity.

Much of the "legs" that evolution has with the bible-thumping crowd is based on the fact that they steadfastly refuse to understand scientific theory, even to learn the difference in the terms theory and hypothesis, and bank on the ignorance of the "followers" to keep their thinking simplistic.

It is actually a theory ,as many other answeres have said, as opposed to ahypothesis, and there are many scientific theroys which rule our lives ...for example ask the people of Nagasaki if the the theory of relativity which lead tot he developement of the atomic bomb is "just a theory" a sthe creationists like to say. well it is just a theory, but the bombs still work.... gravity is "just a theory" ...but we don't fall off of the planet...God is "just a theory" ...and when i prayed for a corvette ...I didn't get it...nor did I get that "A" for the math test i never studied for... in fact most things I prayed for never happened
